A personal endorsement
What do you do if you want to buy a netbook but computer stores in your country only stock overpriced models with non-English keyboards? And what if you don’t trust eBay sellers or can’t find an electronics store in the UK or US that will ship overseas?
Having spent months lusting over a Samsung NC10 but unwilling to pay over the odds for a French keyboard version, I finally discovered that the Oxford Street branch of UK department store John Lewis sells them too and will ship overseas (link). Even better, they’ll strip out the UK sales tax (15%) when shipping outside the EU. Of course the Swiss eventually caught up with me and I had to pay import fees (7%), but that still ended up costing less with shipping than anything I could have bought here – French keyboard or not.
For all its old-fashioned image, John Lewis seems to be at the cutting edge of online retail. Who’da thought?
